Tile Packages
Introduction
Tile packages are a proprietary image format that incorporates raster data at different levels and provides the base imagery layer for the SeaLog program. They are created using ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro by setting up an MXD or Project with a web mercator (3857) projection, adding raster and vector layers, setting the display extent to your area of interest, and using the “Data Management Tools”, “Package”, “Create Map Tile Package” toolbox.

ArcMap MXD and data layers
We also have an ArcMap MXD set up with raster and vector data layers to produce tile packages for Alaska south of Nome. Unzip, open the MXD in ArcMap, set your extent to match, and generate your own tile package.
Testing tile packages
Because SeaLog either uses your current location, or defaults to (0, 0), it can be hard to confirm a tile package covers the proper extent if you aren’t there. We wrote a utility program, TilePackageChecker (63 MB) to solve that problem. It lets you load a tile package into a map interface similar to SeaLog, then set your coordinates, and re-center the map to those coordinates.
