Introduction

Sealog uses an open source open street map (OSM) tile format. You can use downloaded tiles from any tile server provided they match the OSM format. A Sealog companion tool named SealogPrep is installed when you install Sealog v3.0.0 or higher. SealogPrep can be used from within Sealog using the Map menu or seperate from Sealog by launching the SealogPrep.exe in the C:folder.

Testing tiles

Once tiles are downloaded they are a series of specifically named png files. You can open any png to assess whether or not if covers your desired research area. Files follow the naming convention [name]_z_x_y.png where the z value is the scale. Look for the files with the lowest z value to see your full extent. The files with the highest z value will indicate the maximum leve you can zoom in.
